Funny Business at the Ritz Cinema

Funny Business | Ritz Cinema

Chaos and pandemonium reign in this silent film comedy show suitable for all the family at this matinee show (2.30pm) at the Ritz Cinema. Laurel & Hardy get stuck in a traffic jam and somehow end up destroying most of the cars, and Buster Keaton is chased by an entire police force. Charlie Chaplin gatecrashes a movie studio and causes havoc, while Harold Lloyd attempts to outwit a phony psychic. With snappy action, visual comedy, and huge amounts of silliness, this show is most suitable for children from age eight upwards - but children of all ages (including babies) are welcome. All tickets for those age 18 and under are free. We charge only for accompanying adults.

The Ritz is one of Yorkshire’s loveliest silent-era cinemas, opening in 1912, just as moving pictures were becoming hugely popular. Yorkshire Silent Film Festival is thrilled to be bringing silent film back to Thirsk once again. The Music: jazz pianist Adam Fairhall will bring the films to life with improvised piano accompaniment. Adam’s contemporary twist on early jazz piano styles is a perfect match for the slapstick brilliance of these great silent film clowns.

Tickets on sale at ysff.co.uk: £12.50 (standard), £10 (over 60), £7 (student), £4 (claimant), free for under 18.
